What is your tank made of?
Glass and acrylic call for different blades, so this is the first thing we need to know.
Which type of glass is it?
Low iron glass is clearer and softer, so we will match the blade to it.
Does your tank have a curved or bowfront panel?
Magnet cleaners need a flat panel to track properly. Curved fronts get their own tool.
How thick is your glass?
Each Flipper is rated for a maximum panel thickness. Pick the range your tank falls in.
What matters most to you?
Both options fit your tank. This decides which one we put first.
Glass or acrylic. Different blades.
Every Flipper cleaner works on both. The blade you run is what changes.
- Glass takes the stainless steel blade for coralline and hard algae.
- Acrylic uses the plastic (acrylic-safe) blade only. Stainless will scratch it.
- Not sure? Tap a panel with a coin. Glass rings, acrylic thuds.
Check the edge.
Look at the exposed edge of a panel, or the top rim of the tank.
- Standard glass shows a green tint at the edge.
- Low iron glass looks clear or very faintly blue at the edge.
- Rimless "ultra clear" and "Starphire" tanks are low iron.
Flat or curved.
A bowfront panel curves outward. Standard magnets lose contact on a curve, so the Flipper Pico handles those tanks.
Measure the panel, not the tank.
Use the actual panel thickness rather than the tank's advertised size or gallon rating.
- Measure the top edge of the front panel with a ruler or calipers.
- Rimmed tanks: check the manufacturer's spec sheet if the edge is covered.
- Between two ranges? Pick the thicker one. Too much magnet is safer than too little.
Two ways to clean.
Both are rated for your tank. The Float is the everyday workhorse. The Edge adds a second blade and a stronger magnet for heavy growth.

I have tried them all, magna scraper, mag float, mag float scrape and the smaller version of flipper. This is by far the best product. It scrapes coralline algae without effort. It is large 6.5x3, and recommend it on large tanks. Worth the money.

Let me just say that this thing works perfectly. I'm usually very worried about scratching the glass with sand with other scrappers, but this one eliminates that fear. Not only that, but I only need to do 2-3 scraps to eliminate that pesky coraline algae. Otherwise it takes 1 pass to remove all other kinds of algae and makes for keep the glass clean a breeze.
Flipper made easy work of the coralline build up on my glass. The blade has remained as sharp as day one as it does today 2 months after daily use. Love my Flipper Max.
Throw out all other glass cleaning magnets and long handled scrapers. Or save money and buy this one from the get go if starting out in the hobby. I wish this product was available 13 years ago when I first set up my tank. I would not have the handful of scratches from my old cleaning practices. I can not comment on the effectiveness on acrylic tanks as mine is glass.

I have a saltwater bow front tank. And as all of you bow front users know, getting a scraper of any sort for this kind of aquarium is impossivle, nothing is shaped for it, except for this thing. The scraper works like magic on my bow front. usually I had to detach a scraper from the long arms of other scrapers and put my hand in the tank. But that's not needed anymore. This thing is a must have, I know the price is steep but you won't regret it.
The Flipper algae cleaner is AMAZING!
My previous run-of-the-mill magnetic cleaner and wand-style steel-bladed scraper made cleaning my glass a chore. This all changed after using the Flipper algae cleaner. I received it in the morning, placed it in the tank and 5 minutes later my glass was clean. I used the stainless steel blade on my glass and the plastic scrapper on my plastic overflow. DONE. IT WORKS.
The Flipper scraper is fantastic! It's worth the investment! The flipping function is a nice touch. It allowed me to easily switch between the scraper and scrubber without getting my hands wet while scraping through coralline algae with ease. The two rubber balls greatly reduce the chances of sand scratching your glass while putting more force on the blade to remove any algae on the glass. I recommend Flipper to anyone with an aquarium.
